about

Gaia Gia is a jewelry artist and metalsmith whose practice emerges from queer experience and fantasy escapism. Growing up feeling outcast from most social groups, Gaia found refuge in massive multiplayer online roleplaying games (MMORPG) such as Fantage, Wizard101, and Eden Eternal. Although many of these online communities are now gone, they leave behind a lasting impact on Gaia Gia’s vision.
Gaia Gia aims to bring fantasy to reality in an attempt to reanimate lost nostalgia. Fragments of these vanished spaces are translated into tangible forms. Drawing on the language of fantasy and nature, jewelry becomes a vessel through which the immaterial qualities of digital culture take on material presence.
This research foregrounds questions of how objects embody experiences, how adornment acts as armor, and how fantasy reconfigures memory into materiality. The resulting works operate as relics, portals, and armor. They bridge the gap between past and present, screen and body, memory and object. Through these works, Gaia Gia constructs a speculative system of jewelry-as-reliquary, where what once felt lost is carried into the present, re-enchanted, and made real again.
Gaia Gia is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Design studying jewelry at OCAD University in Toronto, where they also work as part of the studio staff. They have recently exhibited at the George Fry Gallery in August 2025 and the Anna Leonowens Gallery in September 2025.
